Route from Morgantown, WV to Corolla & Traffic (2024)

79 to 68 to 522 to 17 to 95 and then 64

or

79 to 68 to 522 to 81 to 66 to 17 to 95.

My problem is the GPS is not picking up either route and I cannot figure out how to determine the miles between each change. We are planning to leave around 3:00AM. Will that put us there at a decent time and is the traffic on the bridge still going to be bad Aug 29 to Sept 6?

Like you I have a few different routes, I always turn on Google Maps and Waze when I leave, I have avoided some major accidents by letting them re-route me.

Sometimes neither app will 'find' Corolla, I put in Kitty Hawk and that usually works.

Bridge traffic depends on the time of day. All bets off for major accidents.

What bridge traffic? I hope you mean in some other state other than NC. I hope you are not starting a rumor that there is any traffic backup on the Wright Bros Memorial bridge to Kitty Hawk. There used to be 4+ years ago but not since unless there is an accident. There was one several weeks ago but that is the only time the bridge backed up more than past the bridge itself and it rarely even does that. This year has even less traffic since there is no reason to get here early with hardly any early check-ins.

Rt 12 north to Duck backs up starting at 8:30 am and that has been the same for years.

I have better luck by carving the trip up into waypoints. Live in cumberland, so my route is thru winchester, but i go by way of paw-paw wv, pick up 522 and then 37 round to 81 to 66 then 17. Stop in fredericksburg chick-fil-a. Easy to find and right in the way. Then onto 95s, 295s round richmond to 460 petersburg. I dont care for i64 williamsburg / vb/ norfolk. 460 is a bit slower, but nicer ride and no shipyard traffic. Cheap gas at 460 also. 460 to suffolk then find 158/168 and on to the obx.

I like 4am depart, so you being 1 hr west, still puts you on the bridge to obx around noon. Maybe earlier if you eat on the quick and dont stop 1hr for breakfast etc. covid worked well as my family just wanted to pack sandwiches, etc. i was making great time til Isaisas shut us down a few weeks back.
